Installation of components at a potato processing plant
Introduction and Project Objective
We started the new year with a large-scale project carried out at one of the industrial plants in Greater Poland. The main goal of our crane services was to install components weighing nearly 80 tons at a potato processing plant.
Scope of Work
Carrying out this order required a high level of commitment, starting from:
- precise measurements on the plant site and discussing the work plan with the client,
- developing transport routes considering permissible standards and road restrictions,
- precisely arranging loads on truck trailers needed to complete the project,
- positioning the main crane and the auxiliary crane in the final workplace, in accordance with the initial assumptions,
- assembling the lattice boom elements of the main crane.
The configuration of the main crane, the Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1, included 24.5 meters of lattice boom sections and a counterweight mass of 165 tons. Thanks to a comprehensive approach to the workflow, both cranes were ready for precise lifts the very next day.
On the first day, we completed the installation of a 10-ton separator. The following day, we tackled the main goal of the project – lifting and placing an evaporator weighing 77 tons and measuring 26 meters in height. A spreader beam with a maximum lifting capacity of 120 tons was used for the task. A key element in lifting such a sensitive and heavy load was the auxiliary LTM 1200-5.1 crane, which enabled vertical positioning and precise placement of the evaporator.
Project Challenges
The industrial site where we carried out our assignment had special working conditions; therefore, safety and hygiene were paramount for our team. The close proximity of important buildings and industrial infrastructure did not affect our work progress, and efficient coordination as well as responsible and precise crane operation resulted in an effective completion of the project.
Efficiency
A logistical and comprehensive approach to our services ensured safe and on-time work completion, in line with our objectives. During the dismantling of the boom extension, we installed additional equipment for the main crane, the LTM 1650-8.1. The installation of the Y-guying (“Y”) on the plant site significantly optimized our capabilities for the next project in Poznań in the following days.
Conclusions
Completing this important project with our flagship crane, the LTM 1650-8.1, and a strong auxiliary unit, the LTM 1200-5.1, positions us as a company that plays a significant role in the local industry and technological development of Greater Poland. We are ready to take on further projects in the field of industrial construction, and the experience gained by our team will undoubtedly bear fruit in the future.
