Introduction and Project Objectives

The construction of modern residential and commercial facilities would not be possible without the use of specialized lifting equipment, including various types of cranes. Recently, Błażej&Roman, in cooperation with our regular clients (Trinac, Pekabex), completed another project in the northern part of Poznan. The main objective of this project was the challenging task of dismantling a 54-meter-high tower crane.

Such an undertaking requires special attention and meticulous planning due to the proximity of newly built residential buildings and other ongoing construction work. Safety and coordinated actions were key factors that ensured the smooth execution of the entire process.

Scope of Work

  • Preparing the work site in accordance with health and safety standards, including the elimination of potential hazards.
  • Developing an optimal configuration for the main crane – Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1.
  • Loading and transporting the main crane’s accessories.
  • Consultations with the construction management to determine the safety zone and the course of work.
  • Setting up the crane in accordance with project assumptions, including the necessary boom extensions.

VarioBallast® Technology

During the tower crane dismantling, the VarioBallast® technology proved indispensable, allowing the crane to work with counterweights in a confined space. The close proximity of newly constructed buildings required minimizing the crane’s operating radius when performing slewing movements, made possible by adjusting and properly configuring the ballast.

In addition, the auxiliary crane Liebherr LTM 1070-4.2 was used to install the extension of the main boom. A total of 27 meters of lattice sections were deployed, yielding a combined length of 81 meters with the telescopic boom. The tower crane dismantling process included structures from Liebherr: the “top section” (steering tower and 280 EHC jib) and the main 500 HC tower with a base. The work was divided into two stages, which allowed the jib elements to be removed on the first day, followed by the remaining tower sections on the next day.

Efficiency

The Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1 configuration enabled the efficient lifting of tower components weighing up to 14 tons at a reach of 42 meters, made possible by utilizing 115 tons of counterweight. Thanks to excellent organization and our team’s extensive experience in residential construction projects, the process was completed safely and with minimal disruptions for the surrounding buildings.

Summary

For many years, Błażej&Roman has supported the development of the construction industry in the region by providing assembly and dismantling services for cranes and other complex structures. The use of cutting-edge technological solutions, such as VarioBallast® and lattice boom extensions, enables us to meet the requirements of the most demanding projects. Another successful undertaking in the northern part of Poznan reaffirms our readiness to tackle future challenges in tower crane dismantling.
